U-VOL Medical Mission – Nigeria, 2026

Overview

We are excited that you are interested in serving others as a U-VOL medical mission outreach volunteer in Nigeria, July 17th-24th, 2026! This mission will take place in Benue State, located in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region. While the communities we serve are rich in culture and resilience, many individuals and families continue to face limited access to essential healthcare services. This outreach offers a powerful opportunity to serve underserved populations, support local healthcare providers, and take part in a meaningful exchange of knowledge, compassion, and hope


Our Mission & Impact

Our goal for this mission is to expand access to high-quality primary care, pediatric care, and women’s health services for underserved individuals and families in Benue State, Nigeria. In addition to direct clinical care, we are committed to strengthening the local healthcare workforce through capacity-building, service-based education, and meaningful knowledge exchange.

During this outreach, our clinical team will offer:

  • Primary care services, including evaluations, consultations, and treatment
  • Pediatric care, including acute illness assessment and general wellness support
  • Women’s health and gynecologic services, including assessments and care planning
  • Basic health screenings (e.g., blood pressure, blood glucose, pregnancy testing)
  • HIV screening, counseling, and referral, as appropriate
  • Medication dispensing and management, based on available resources
  • Referrals to higher levels of care, including linkage to ongoing support and services
  • Minor procedures (e.g., wound care, dressing changes, suturing as needed)
  • Community health education sessions focused on prevention, wellness, and healthy living
  • Provider training and skills upskilling, including Helping Babies Breathe (HBB) and CPR

  As a volunteer, you will:

  • Deliver full-spectrum primary adult, pediatrics and women’s healthcare including screenings, assessments, consultations, treatment
  • Dispense medications and provide individualized health counseling
  • Lead or assist with community health education sessions
  • Collaborate with local community providers in a mutual knowledge-sharing environment
  • Strengthen local capacity through on-the-ground training and mentorship

Core Medical Mission Schedule (Required)

July 17–24, 2026

  • July 17: International travel day (depart for Nigeria)
  • July 18: Team arrival in Abuja + overnight stay
  • July 19: Travel to Benue State + welcome orientation and facility tour
  • July 20: Clinic orientation and preparation (station setup, medication packing, workflow planning)
  • July 21: Provider training and capacity building
  • July 22: Clinic Day 1
  • July 23: Clinic Day 2
  • July 24: Return travel to Abuja + international depature (for those who do not extend)

Trip Extension: Cultural Immersion & National Diaspora Events – Abuja (Optional)

July 25–27, 2026

  • July 25: Nigeria Diaspora Day (Abuja)
  • July 26: Diaspora Youth Empowerment Summit (day) + Diaspora Merit Awards & Gala (evening)
  • July 27: International departure (for those who extend)

***Note: Participation in the Abuja Extension is optional and may require additional lodging and travel costs. Volunteers who choose to extend will receive more details during the onboarding process.


Transport & Lodging

Volunteers will stay in safe and comfortable guest accommodations arranged by U-VOL in Abuja & Benue State. Daily transport to the clinic will be provided.
Ground transportation within Nigeria will be provided, including airport transfers and daily transportation between lodging and the clinic.


Volunteer Costs

  • Cost: $1,600 per participant + airfare
  • Group Rate: $1,200 per participant (for groups of 4 or more) + airfare

Included in Program Fee:

  • Lodging
  • Daily meals & bottled water
  • Ground transport in Nigeria
  • U-VOL scrubs & outreach T-shirt
  • Interpreters
  • Security/logistics coordination

Not included:

  • International airfare to Abuja, Nigeria (est. $1,200 – $2,300)
  • Visa costs (if applicable)

***A $750 non-refundable deposit is due upon application approval to reserve your spot on the mission. Remaining fees must be paid in full at least 6 weeks before departure. All program fees are considered donations and are non-refundable.

  • Registered Nurses (RN) / Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN/LVN)
  • Certified Nurse Midwives / Labor & Delivery Nurses
  • Pharmacists / Pharmacy Technicians
  • Public health professionals
  • Licensed mental health professionals (as applicable)
  • Medical & nursing trainees/students (case-by-case)
Non-Medical Volunteers
  • Hospitality and general support roles (medication packing, clinic setup/breakdown, and administrative tasks)
  • Operations/logistics support
  • Volunteer coordinators/team leads
  • Patient flow support (registration, crowd coordination)
  • Interpreters / cultural liaisons
  • Community health education support
  • Media/content support (photography/videography/social media)
  • Data/documentation support (intake forms, impact tracking)

Volunteer Requirements

See if you are eligible to apply:

  • Must be a resident of the U.S. or Canada (*For International applicants outside of Nigeria)
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Medical professionals must have valid credentials through the mission duration
  • Must hold a valid passport through the mission duration; responsible for securing visa if required
  • Must be comfortable working in very warm, humid, low-resource environments (up to 90°F, minimal air conditioning)
  • Full Program fees must be paid in full at least 6 weeks before departure
